Funny Games (alternatively titled Funny Games U.S.) is a 2007 psychological horror film written and directed by Michael Haneke, and a remake of his own 1997 film of the same titleNaomi WattsTim RothMichael Pitt, and Brady Corbet star in the main roles. The film is a shot-for-shot remake of the 1997 film,[6][7][8] albeit in English and set in the United States with different actors.[9] Like the original, the film follows a middle class family as they are captured and tortured by two young criminals on their vacation. Exterior scenes were filmed on Long Island.[9] The film is an international co-production of the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy.[10][11][12] Haneke has stated that the film is a reflection and criticism of violence used in media.[13]

The plot involves two young men who hold a family hostage and torture them with sadistic games in their vacation home. The film was entered into the 1997 Cannes Film Festival.[3] A shot-for-shot remake, filmed and set in the United States, was released in 2007, also directed by Haneke, this time with an English-speaking cast and a mostly American crew.
